Good point... But worst case scenario, I wipe the drive, re-install Debian and pull out my little 40 gig XP game drive out of the drawer. The question is do I see how many pieces I can install individually before I get hammered or do I go for the big bang? I have a feeling if I change too much at once it will be game over.

Nice experiment, but I'm not sure if it was a good idea to spend all that money now, if you want to upgrade processor, board and graphics card soon. Because MS will detect the new hardware and sing you the Genuine Advantage blues, meaning deducting one of you installation points. Which means you are rather sooner being asked to stop experimenting and pay for another license.

Well you are not spending your money on Office software, so you can afford this. If you need some help with your OpenOffice, hop over to Plan-B for OpenOffice.org - http://openoffice.screencast-tutorials.com/index
